Harmood students are looking after our world

Last term, our students spent time in their Humanities classes studying climate change and pollution, in a course module called ‘Looking after our world’.

Humanities project 2

Working in groups, the students were challenged to design and create 3D models demonstrating the Greenhouse Effect.

They were asked to include key components such as the Earth, cars and factories in their designs. The models were made from recyclable materials which the students and staff had collected, to give the project a very low carbon footprint.

Each group impressed us with their different design. Scorpio students showed great design flair when suggesting ways to make 3D clouds and to hang a big red thermometer at the front of the model to show the impact of global warming. Students in Gemini and Capricorn groups created 3D stacks to show the impact of polluting factories on our environment. And Capricorn took on the challenging of hand drawing the key components onto the cardboard!

And at the end, all the models were recycled as well – as the students put what they had learned into practice!

“All the students demonstrated fantastic skill in putting their learning into 3D form, and it was brilliant to watch each group working together so well. A big well done to everyone!”
